VALICO BYPASS - LOT 13

Client: Autostrade per l'Italia S.p.A.

Cost of works: €261,853,582

Upgrading of the Apennine section between Sasso Marconi and Barberino di Mugello along the Quercia - Barberino di Mugello section.

This project requires the construction of a new section of motorway of approximately 6.2 km, a single carriageway with three lanes.

The work includes the construction of 3 tunnels (Manganaccia, Alteta and Puliana), with an overall length of 3.5 km, an artificial tunnel of 210 m, 3 steel viaducts (Lora, Fiumicello, and Sieve) with an overall length of 1.2 km and a viaduct - named 'Aglio' after the river that flows below it - of 598m. This has been built using a balanced cantilever construction method (Dywidag). The Aglio viaduct, which consists of 2 shore spans of 77m and 3 central spans of 444 m overall (148 m each), is certainly the main aspect of the project. All the spans are variable cross section. The vertical supports are over 80 m tall.
