VALICO BYPASS - LOTS 6 AND 7
Client: Autostrade per l'Italia
Cost of works: € 548,619,312
Upgrading of the Apennine section between Sasso Marconi
and Barberino di Mugello, along the La Quercia - Badia
Work on lots 6 and 7 consists of the
construction of a new section of motorway of approximately
7.5 km, 2 twin-tube tunnels with an overall length of
approximately 4.5 km, and 2 viaducts made of mixed-section,
steel and concrete deck, with built-in anti-seismic
devices. The work also includes 1200 m of embankment and minor road works.
The Molino di Setta viaduct is of especially
high quality, a mixed steel and concrete deck that
is 530 m in length and reaches over several spans
with a maximum central span height of 100 m. The same
applies to the Sparvo viaduct, built in mixed steel
and concrete, also 500 m in length, with a central span
of 120 m.
In addition to the Val di Sambro tunnel, excavated using traditional methods, with a lenght of 2 km
per tube, the main project on this lot is the
twin-tube Sparvo tunnel. The North carriageway is 2564
m long and the South carriageway is 2600 m long. The
two tubes will each house 3 lanes and a pedestrian bypass
and driveway are also planned in case of emergency rescue or evacuation.
The Sparvo tunnel has been excavated with
the help of 'Martina', an EPB TBM that was specifically designed for this project. It has an excavation diameter of 15.62 m and is equipped with anti-explosive devices.
