“Varianti di Valico”: TOTO COSTRUZIONI, A FUNDAMENTAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE WORK DELIVERED ON TIME. 25 KM OUT OF 65 KM MADE.
8th November 2014 – Nine viaducts, eight tunnels spread over 25 km, in the most fragile path of Italy, a twelve years work. This deviation task achieved by Toto Costruzioni Generali S.p.a. in the Varianti di Valico, ends today with the completion of the Val di Sambro tunnel, one of the more complex work was the doubling in the Apennine of A1, between Florence and Bologna.
The Variante di Valico is a strategic work for Italy - said the CEO of Toto Costruzioni, Alfonso Toto- which will make easier the motorway link between North and South. Technically, we are proud to have costibuite to construct this work. 20% of the works (equal to 1.2 billion euros) has been achieved by our men, among the most challenging task was the infrastructure of the Sparvo's tunnel, built in record time by mega cutter Martina. From a technical point of view has been drawn a new route for the construction of the tunnels.. Then there is the viaduct Aglio a real jewel from a perspective technical construction point of view. I want -concluded the CEO- to personnally thank the technicians, workers, engineers of Toto costruzioni for their exceptional efforts during these years of hard work.
Safety, innovation and excellence. The new 65 miles of the Variante di Valico will count 5 great works, of which 17 are those designed and manufactured by the firm of Abruzzo, projects that in many cases have already been mentioned in the literature as cutting-edge infrastructures, responding to the latest safety standards and marked by several firsts. An example is the Sparvo tunnel, excavated and covered over 5 km in just 19 months. To build the tunnel the engineers drove the gigantic TBM "Martina", which is 16 metres in diameter the largest shielded cutter in the world, inside the heart of the insidious rock mountain, between braking clays the constant danger of leakage of firedamp. A project whereby Toto has received the title of "best enterprise of 2013" at the the International Tunnelling Awards in London. Another case of excellence is the Aglio viaduct,, towards Barberino del Mugello, a prestressed concrete's jewel of 600 meters of deck stretched between the mountains on fleece up to 90 metres,, designed by Toto's engineers avoiding joints between pillars, to maximize comfort and ensure optimal resistance in case of seismic events.
The last great work that concludes the Variante di Valico is the Val di Sambro's tunnel, which with its 3, 9km crosses the boundary between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. An excavation that has committed a total of 80 workers, who worked continuously in 4 shifts during 7days, 24 hours a day, to reach the ambitious goal by the end of the year of allowing the openning of the highway to traffic in 2015. A goal all Italian that Toto along with associated enterprises, Vianini Lavori and Profacta, with the organisations and institutions (ASL locale, 118, University of Bologna, ARPA, Rhine Basin Authority, Environmental Observatory) and with the client Autostradale per l'Italia, who believed in the talent and savoir-faire of our country.
